So this is it....I am less than two weeks away from fulfilling a goal I could only dream of. Ever since I began to take interest in the state of International Healthcare in high school, all I could think about was how I could combine my passion of photography to bring awareness to the field. Now after a year and a half of countless hours writing grants, conference calls, and planning I will join Circle of Health International in their efforts to improve the lives of women and children across the globe and build the capacity of midwives where they are needed the most.
The purpose of our project is to use the power of photojournalism to conduct a cross-cultural comparison of local midwife practices in the conflict ridden communities of Israel and the Palestinian Territories in order to communicate how these practitioners provide the best services they can despite their circumstance. I also want to document the barriers to accessing medical attention at the most critical moments during prenatal and postnatal care. My ambition is to learn how to augment the methodology of public healthcare systems through photography and illustrate how to incorporate traditional birthing methods into disaster relief.
